How much elasticity should the hair be and how can I measure it?

If your hair can stretch up to 20 percent of its original length and still return to its normal shape without breaking, like a spiral spring; it means that your hair is healthy. 

And if the hair can stretch but can’t return to its natural state, just like a chewing gum; it means that the hair is weak and need some treatment to regain its elasticity and flexibity. 

How to check the flexibility and elesticity of your natural hair.

To do a quick a test of the elasticity of your natural hair, select only one hair strand.

Roll it between two fingers in the middle part (not in the growth, since it is the healthiest part; not at the tip, because it is the most damaged part). 

Then stretch it to upto 20 percent of its actual lenght, since the hair can withstand it is the only thing that the hair will support.

The hair is healthy and elastic when it returns to its original shape as I said before. 

If it breaks or does not return to its original size, it means that your natural hair have low elasticity and it is said to be weakened also.

How do I regain the elasticity of my hair?

  1. Apply a reconstruction treatment that provides protein to the hair.

    This should be done by a specialist, so go to a quality salon and ask for a personalized diagnosis of your hair. In this way they will choose the right product that solves and adapts to your needs.

  2. Reduce the use of tumble dryers and tongs.
